Day 5 - Called to Love and Lead
Scripture Reading: (Matthew 22:35-40) 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
(Matthew 20:25-28 35) 25 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment, He answered with two simple but life-changing priorities, love God and love people. Later, when teaching His disciples about leadership, He explained that greatness in God's Kingdom is not found in power or position but in serving others.
Jesus didn't simply teach these truths, He modeled them perfectly.
Throughout His ministry, Jesus consistently put the needs of others before His own. He served people, encouraged people, challenged people, forgave people, and ultimately gave His life for people. He led through love and loved through leadership.
Many men naturally drift toward one of two extremes. Some lead without love. They focus on results, responsibility, and authority but neglect compassion, patience, and relationship. Others love without leading. They avoid hard conversations, difficult decisions, and courageous action.
Jesus demonstrates a better way.
Biblical manhood requires both. We are called to love deeply and lead courageously. Whether as husbands, fathers, coaches, employers, pastors, friends, or neighbors, our leadership should reflect the heart of Christ.
The men who make the greatest impact are not necessarily the strongest, smartest, or most talented. They are the men who consistently choose to serve others and place their needs above their own.
Reflection:
What would it look like for me to have the same mindset toward others that Jesus had?
Am I stronger at loving or leading? Which area needs growth?
Who has God entrusted to my care and influence right now?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me see the countless ways Jesus continually pours His love and leadership into my life. As You do, help me pour that same love and leadership into my wife, children, family, friends, and those around me.
